Townsite Center - Moorhead, MN
March 13, 2009

On Friday the 13th, Joe and Rachael got the chance to ghost hunt the Townsite Center in Moorhead, MN. The Townsite Center has long been a focal point in Moorhead since being built in 1920. Before being converted into a business complex it was the high school.  One legend in Moorhead tells of a couple being killed outside of the school on prom night by an oncoming truck.  We believe that the site of this legend is not the current high school location, rather the Townsite Center where the high school was previously.
Long known for its reputation to be haunted we were excited to have the chance to explore the building.  However, due to the vastness of the building and the fact that it is mostly occupied by offices, when we got there we soon decided the focus of our investigation would be the basement.

In itself the basement is huge with many different levels, doors, hiding spots and dead ends.  We do know that it stores the servers for the businesses located in the complex, so there are wires running everywhere and it is most likely accessed on a fairly regular basis. Asbestos warnings were posted and we were not prepared for that, but stuck it out for this investigation.

Almost immediately we were warned by whatever is in the basement to "Go back".
Even if we had been able to hear this warning it would have encouraged us to go on as we had been waiting to get into this place.

As we initially started to wander, we did note the temperature was very hot. About 10 minutes into the investigation, before we noticed the asbestos warning, we could tell the dust and dirtiness of the place was already taking its effect on us. An interesting EVP was captured when Joe coughed...followed by what sounds like a cow mooing! The picture below in an indication of all that was floating around in the air.

At one point when we are wandering I do notice how bad the dust is when I am taking pictures and Joe responds "That's not good" followed by a voice saying "No".

There were so many things in the basement that seemed out of place, like a picture a child had drawn that was signed Abatha. I asked "Who's Abatha" followed by a faint voice repeating the name.

Throughout the basement there were many closed and locked doors as well as cubby holes and hiding spots. Perhaps we were walking by one of those when we got a voice saying "Let me out". One of the cubby holes led to another part of the basement and Joe and I were joking about Billy Mayes and OxyClean when I was crawling through it (as you can tell by my noise of struggle) and following that something says "Thank You".

In one spot a chair was inexplicably placed in an area where you would have to crouch down or crawl over things to get to it. It had hand and fingerprints on it in the dust. Below is the chair and a view of it from a different angle.

We noticed in this area that the temperature was at least 10 or more degrees cooler than the rest of the basement. Joe asked "Why do you like this chair so much" and 16 seconds later, after we note the temperature difference, a voice said "Don't move the chair".

During some times of complete silence we got a few interesting voices. One sounds like a child saying "I don't wanna be here" and another sounds like we caught a conversation with a woman's voice first, then a man's.

There floor was completely covered with rubble, dust and broken rocks so I thought to ask if there were any treasures down there for me to find and a voice responds "Yeah".

One interesting room looked as though it was the catch-all storage room for the basement.

We found some very interesting clues in there that helps us with our case that this is the high school spoken of in the tale of the doomed prom-goers. Located in the back right-hand corner of the room is duct work with the name Mary Lou Larsen and the date of 1967.

Also in the same room are doors and emblems with the words "Promethians" and "Wigsig Promethians" on them.

In our research we could not find any record of these words in context with school's in Moorhead, MN, although it sounds like it could have been a sports team or possibly newspaper or yearbook. We will continue to research this and do have plans to reinvestigate the Townsite Center.

In the time we spent down in the basement we got many EVP's and from the way they answered our questions we would say it is haunted, and an intelligent haunting at that.

When we investigate the next time we will take our sense of humor with us as the people who still work in this area certainly have theirs:
